How to unzip files (Windows)

Last Updated on May 4, 2018

Unzipping files is usually a painless process, but there are some intricacies depending on your version of Windows.

On Windows XP or newer systems, your computer should have a built-in extractor program. In most cases you’ll be able to simply double-click on the zip file and your computer will extract the contents of the zip file.

If your computer asks you where to extract the files, we recommend selecting your desktop or another location you will remember so that it’s easy to find the files afterwards.

If double-clicking on a zip file doesn’t work, try right-clicking on the file and selecting Extract. Then select the location where you want to place the contents of the zip.
